We, too, have been through times when we’ve had to take out a mortgage to fund our ongoing concealer, pimple patch and skincare needs. Frankly, it’s a sh*tty feeling that can suck your confidence over time, regardless of how positive your self-talk is.
We’re here to help you feel more empowered and informed about what your skin is up to, and what you can do about it.
How do I know if my acne is hormonal?
The top sign is that your pimples will generally hang around your jawline or chin. This is because androgen-driven acne tends to show up in places that men grow facial hair: the jawline, sides of the face, neck and chin.
Acne that pops up like clockwork at certain times of your cycle is another classic calling card of hormonal acne. Around ovulation or pre-period are common times due to the fluctuations of hormones taking place. Not sure if this is you? Track your acne flares using a period tracker app like Flo or Clue and after a couple of months you might start noticing a pattern emerge.
If your acne is hormonally driven, it can feel as though nothing you do helps. Because your hormone balance is the true underlying cause, and a new skincare routine isn’t going to rectify that.
That all kinda sounds like me. What do I do?
